QEH Opens Relocated and Renovated GI UnitMay 19, 2006 – The official opening of the newly renovated and relocated Gastrointestinal Unit (GI Unit) of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) is scheduled for Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. in Ward C1.

The original GI Unit of the QEH opened its doors more than two decades ago. It has since developed into a medical unit that served over 1,900 patients in 2005.

As the patient load increased the physical space became a challenge and plans to relocate and expand the unit were undertaken.

The relocated and renovated GI Unit among other things will allow for proper patient flow and adequate waiting room.

EAS Installs New, State-of-the-Art Call Recording SystemApril 7, 2006 – In an effort to improve the quality of pre-hospital care it provides, the Emergency Ambulance Service (EAS) has purchased and installed a new, state-of-the-art Vox Voice Recording System.

This recording system will record all “511” emergency calls received by the EAS, calls between the QEH Accident and Emergency department and ambulances in the field, and radio communications between EAS dispatch, A&E and ambulances in the field.

This Vox Voice Recording System replaces a Dictaphone system which was proven to be obsolete three years ago.

The new system will not only act as a quality assurance device but will also provide better insight into the types of calls received by the EAS, and detect any reasons for delays in response time.
